I never really think about people who have food allergies. I’m blessed that no one in my family has them. We all just eat whatever we feel like with know worries that a horrible reaction could occur.
For those that do have them though, they have to be careful. Nuts are a huge issue for many people.
Nuts bring so much to recipes, taste, texture. And to a chocolate chip cookie, it becomes a whole new cookie.
Chocolate Chip Pecan Cookies, Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookies, Chocolate Chip Macadamia Nut Cookies, you get what I’m saying. The additional ingredient after the chocolate chips changes everything.
When that ingredient is pretzels…lets just say if I ever have to give up nuts, I can still be happy, at least in the cookie world.

I love the idea of putting in pretzels in cookies, and I love that you thought of those with nut allergies when making these! No one in my immediate family has food allergies, but a lot of people in my extended family do so I’ll make these for our next family gathering!
I love these Pretzel Chocolate Chip Cookies Joan! We don’t have any nut allergies in our home either; however, several of my daughters friends and classmates have them and it makes it difficult to find new things to bring in for the kids to safely share. Thanks for the recipe.

Thank you for being aware of those with nut allergies. This is something we have lived with daily for 37 years with our oldest daughter and have had several scares! Even cross contamination can be a danger. I discovered the use of pretzels several years ago and have been happy with the results. I use them crushed on top of salads, inside salads and even roll my homemade cheese balls in crushed pretzels!!!! Now she too can enjoy the treats the rest of the family loves.

I made these the other day and they were really good. The only problem I had with them was I thought that the pretzels would have more of a crunch than what they did. They sort of became softer after baking, but nonetheless the cookies were still delicious.
2 1/2 cups of chocolate chips seems like a lot. That is a whole bag and then some. Hmm. Will try these with a few less chips and let you know how they taste. The recipe does sound good, though! Have leftover pretzels, and always have at least one bag of chocolate chips in my pantry. Staples, of course. Always.
Great idea! My son has tree nut and peanut allergies (also milk). so I don’t bake with nuts. I don’t really love them in my baked goods anyway. I think my kids would love these though! A note to those making these for others with nut allergies – be aware when you are buying chocolate chips that they are not manufactured on shared equipment with nut contain products. Also – don’t be offended if someone with a nut allergy turns your beautiful cookies down, if you do bake with nuts in your kitchen. It’s not meant to be offensive; just a trace of peanuts/nuts can be fatal to many!

Yes, I’ve frozen this dough with the pretzels mixed in and it keeps well. The pretzels stayed crisp. Once you defrost the dough, I would recommend using it right away.

i made these and used almond flour. Taste is great but they really flattened out.
