Cinnamon Pecan Butter Cookies-the rich taste of a butter cookie with cinnamon and pecans

Cinnamon Pecan Butter Cookies-the rich taste of a butter cookie with cinnamon and pecans.

Ya’ll are my friends. And I can talk to my friends. This has been bothering me for almost a week now and I need to get it off my chest. And that’s what friends are for, to listen, right?

The other day, I was shopping at Fred’s, getting a few items. While waiting to check out, I watch a woman, in her forties, pull into the handicap spot right in front of the store. As she proceeds to run (and I do mean run) into the store, her male passenger takes the handicap permit out of the console and places it on the mirror. I watch the woman come into the store and dash through the isles.

I won’t say this woman isn’t handicapped, you never know what issues people have that aren’t visible to the rest of us. But on this day, she certainly didn’t need that handicapped space. To top off the story, the space right next to the handicapped one was available.

I know a few people that truly need that handicapped space. And I also know that if they don’t need it, they won’t use it. They understand what it means when they pull up to a store, when they’re having a bad day or they have their passenger that is the reason for the special tag with them, and all the handicapped spaces are taken. Sometimes, it can mean having to cancel the shopping trip, or circling the lot waiting for one of the spaces to open up.

I’m not trying to judge anyone, but on that day I did. I judged that woman. I found her selfish. I still do. I feel blessed that I can run into any store I want, any time, not worried about the physical exertion of walking to the front of the store from my parking space that is closer to the exit of the shopping center than the front of the store.

I guess what I’m trying to say, is if you have a permit, and you’re having a good day, don’t use that handicapped space. You never know when it might be you, that really needs it one day and it’s not available.

So now that I’ve got that off my chest, I feel better. I’m so glad I have friends I can talk to. Ya’ll are the best! Of course I also feel better since I made these cookies. They remind me of a Cinnamon roll but in cookie form.

  1. Mmm, those cookies do look really good. Question: what is Vanilla Butter and Nut Flavoring? Is it something you buy?

    • Lesa, I’m so glad you asked about the flavoring, I forgot to add the link for it. It’s From McCormick and it’s just an unusual flavoring they offer but I use it a lot in place of regular vanilla, just adds something to the flavor. I call it my secret ingredient. It’s easy to find around her so hopefully you’ll be able to get your hands on a bottle.

    • Thanks Joan! I will definitely look for it. It sounds really good and I bet I could go through a whole bottle with fall baking. 🙂

You don’t have to approve this or post it, but I do want to share a small piece of my life.

I don’t have very many good days, but I have a wonderful husband who spoils me every day. He always drops me off at the door when we go shopping and I go find the electric cart while he parks. If there is no cart I call him on the cell and he gets my wheelchair out of the trunk and brings it in.

He gets dirty looks galore because he is healthy and strong. He has even gotten a really nasty note left on the windshield.

I don’t know the complete circumstances of the woman you observed. I just know our circumstances. My husband is being especially helpful to me, and he parks in handicapped for my convenience when we come out of the store. If I am with him but not going in, he will NOT park in a handicapped space. He is a very honorable man.

Please consider that all things are not as their seem. Thanks for letting me share my point of view.

    • Pat, thanks for sharing with me. Yes, I know there is always so much more behind what our eyes can’t see. It’s for people like you, that do need that space that I was indignant for on this day. Sadly I have too many friends that truly do need these reserved parking spots. I also have to drive my mother to the store on occasion and I always ask her, before using that spot for her, if she needs it on that day. If she does, then we use it, but if it’s a good day, we park a few spaces back so someone else who might not be having such a good day can park a little closer.
God bless and I hope you have more “good days” ahead of you.

  21. Betty Lowe says:

Thank you for your comments on handicap parking. That is a peeve of mine and I just can’t believe the audacity of some people. When my parents were still living I would let them out at the entrance of a store and go park away from the door even though they needed and had a handicap hanger. Even though they needed it I did not need it and I was the one in control of the vehicle. When we finished shopping I would get the car and pick them up at the door again. You never know how bad the next person might need that spot. Thanks again for your comments and compassion.

  22. to your question you have no idea what is wrong with that woman. she may not look sick to you but she probably is I is your visual site. I am sick and a lot of time I don’t look it and again I do but inside I am feeling awful So please don’t judge a book by it’s cover or a person. ????it could be it is just one of her better days and she just might run out of energy by the time she finishes shopping.

  23. flourchild says:

I have a handicap pass. Since I am retired, I try to shop during times that are least crowded. In the local strip malls, I can oftentimes get the first handicap spot and feel grateful. However, people will park right at the curb in front of the store I’m entering. It does little good to save the steps parking in a handicap spot when you then have to completely walk around a car blocking the way! This is especially true in front of the UPS stores and post offices business people just want to dash and go.

I made these today and OMG!!!!!! They are awesome. We have a family Christmas party coming up and I am planning on taking these. I do have a question. Can these be made ahead and frozen?
