Coca Cola Chocolate Cake-made with Coca Cola, buttermilk and mini marshmallows. Serve it warm for a truly decadent treat!
I’m a true Coca Cola girl. I remember as a kid taking “the Pepsi Challenge.” It was never a challenge for me or my friends. There was a huge taste difference and I always chose Coke. I’ve always stayed true, never caving into the sales of other products, just waiting for my brand to come on sale and stock up. You can get away with buying any brand of orange or grape soda but when it comes to a cola, you need the real thing.
It’s funny, I live in Georgia, the home of Coca Cola, but most people I know around here drink Pepsi. To each his own. I still like to kid people when I see them go for a Pepsi. My friend Kim from Cravings of a Lunatic is in Canada. She always drinks Pepsi, until she comes to the states. Then she’s a Coke girl. She says there’s a difference in what they sell up there versus what we have in the states. I wouldn’t know. It’s been so long since I even tried a Pepsi. Maybe it’s better 40 years later?
Anyway, if you’ve never cooked with soda, you should. A coca cola glazed ham-to die for! 7-up biscuits, one of our favorites! Root beer Pulled Pork, I could eat it every day! The carbonation, the syrup, it does something magical to recipes.
Combine that coca cola with cocoa, buttermilk and marshmallows and you get an amazingly moist cake, great chocolate taste and the frosting, I always love a poured frosting! melt in your mouth good!

Double Coca Cola! Frosting and cake! Sounds yummy!
I am a coke girl through and through. The Coke vs Pepsi debate was always a big deal in my house!
And coke WITH chocolate and frosting? Get in my belly! Pinned!
This is my boys favorite cake!
I make this same cake as well and it’s the most moist, delicious cake ever. P.s. I’m in Canada and I have to tell you that American coke is way better than ours here. Every time we go to the states or a family member goes that’s always the one thing we ask them to bring us back ๐
I remember “don’t say the P word” from some commercial!! We had always been Coke drinkers too, although I’ve given up pop a year ago. That said, I still use it in my baking and cooking (thanks for the sweet link to my pork)! This cake looks amazing. And marshmallows? Who knew?
The list of ingredients calls for baking powder but, the instructions say combine the baking soda. There is no b. soda listed.
Sorry about that, it’s baking soda, just corrected the recipe. Thanks for catching it!
I was reading thro the ingredients, which says baking powder, and in the instructions it said baking soda, so wasn’t sure which you meant. Sounds like a yummy cake, I will be making it.
thanks for catching that, it’s baking soda, I’ll correct the recipe!
This is so cool! About a month ago I did a weight watchers cake for my mother, where you substitute the egg and water of a cake mix with a can of soda. This looks waaay more delicious, though ^.^
I’ve seen this on the menu at Cracker Barrel for years and have always wanted to order it! I’m definitely going to give this a try. This recipe looks great and I would be honored if you would come share it at Pin Your Friday Favorite on my blog. Thanks again for the recipe!
2 cups sugar and one cup coke for 2 cup flour….Sounds too sweet… Is it?
And I just noticed the 4 cups of powder sugar for the frosting…. Did anyone try this recipe. It sounds too sweet. I want to try it, but would like some feedback first. Thanx heaps.
I don’t think this cake is overly sweet, as for sweetness, it’s about the same as my Texas Sheet Cake, if that helps.
I love Coca-Cola Cake and this one looks so good! I made a version with olive oil and it turned out incredibly moist and actually froze well too. ๐
I’ll have to try it with olive oil next time. I know using olive oil makes a great cake!
Thanks for this great idea! I took it a little bit further and used Cherry Coke and split the cake with a spreading of cherry preserves in the middle. It was wonderful! I am really into everything cherry right now.
That sounds amazing!
I REALLY want to make this! I have a feeling the coca-cola would intensify the chocolate-y taste … mmmm
I’m definitely a Coke girl! Which is funny because the rest of my family are Pepsi people. My favorite is vanilla coke, so I can totally see a vanilla coke chocolate cake.
I have never baked with coca cola and I am going to be baking this asap…what a moist sounding cake! Darn you and all your amazing cakes…why don’t you publish a baking book. It would be a great hit! go on, please!!! I’ll let you know how this turns out, thank you Joan for this yummy recipe xoxo
Thanks Beverley, this cake is so good! Some day, I’d like to do a book. Just have to find the time (and a publisher, lol)
