I love cookbooks. Especially ones with pictures. And ones about chocolate.

One of my favorite books is “Forrest Gump-My Favorite Chocolate recipes” Life is like a box of Chocolates. I haven’t found a recipe in this book I don’t love. And I’ve tried most of them.

Maybe I’m a little partial to the movie too. I don’t think Tom Hanks knows how to make a bad movie.

“Run Forrest, Run!”

Sorry, I had to say it.

I used to make peanut butter fudge using chocolate chips and peanut butter chips until I got this book. Now I only make it with this recipe. I have made a few adjustments over the years but this is still one of the best fudge recipes I’ve ever used.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter

Instructions

  1. Melt butter in a medium saucepan. Remove from heat and add milk and vanilla.
  2. Sift sugar, cocoa and salt together.
  3. Gradually add sugar mixture to milk mixture stirring until blended.
  4. Stir in peanut butter. I try to leave a few streaks of peanut butter showing but you can stir it completely in if you want.
  5. Press mixture into buttered 8-inch square pan. I line my pan with parchment for easy removal.
  6. Cover and chill. Cut into squares. Keep refrigerated.

Notes

This is a soft fudge, I slightly freeze my fudge for easier cutting then store in the fridge.

  1. Charlie Lehmann says:

Just wondered …what is powdered sugar?? Could I use normal sugar?? Thanks!!

    • Hi Charlie, Powdered sugar is the same as confectioner’s sugar or icing sugar. I wouldn’t recommend using regular granulated sugar, it would just make the fudge gritty and not smooth.

  2. The amount of sugar seems to be too much!
Can I use less than that?

  3. Joanne Seamans says:

I’m going to try this recipe. I hate marshmallow fluff and a lot of fudge recipes contain that.

  4. Cheryl A-Z says:

I am looking for ‘the old fashioned’ chocolate fudge recipe. My mother used to make a choco fudge in a cast iron skillet….dropping a bit into cold water to see if it was ready to take off the heat and let set for a time before beating it……. That taste, texture ……wonderful!!! She used powdered Hersey’s cocoa I think…….

  5. Hi !! Omg i love this website so much!! Excuse my english, i’m french, i would love to try this fudge recipe, but the problem is: is it possible that i can make a fudge without peanut butter? Will it work?

I would like to make a fudge without peanut butter, marshmallow or condensed milk…. I guess it’s impossible? XD

    Thank you!! :)
