Easy Gourmet Donuts-fruits, cookies, candies, the possibilities are limitless
I have to tell you how these donuts came about. There’s this huge blogger’s conference called Blogher Food. It was held in Austin Texas this past year. I didn’t get to go, and I was ok with it. I’ll go next year. At least I thought I was ok…until I started seeing photos of donuts on Instagram.
There’s apparently a place called Gourdoughs Donuts there. My friend Ashton even got to host a Donut party. So when they all came home and started posting these amazing donut creations, I think it’s safe to say I was having donut envy. It’s one thing to miss a conference but to miss all the food?
So what’s a girl to do but just create her own Gourmet Donuts.
I just started withe these easy Homemade Donuts, but you could even use store bought. Sometimes it’s all about the toppings.
I can’t tell you how much fun we had raiding the refrigerator and the pantry to see what we could add to these donuts.
Let me introduce you to Strawberry Sensation
We used up some leftover Macerated Strawberries we had from these Chocolate Strawberry Shortcakes
Unbelievable!
Then we decided to look to the cabinets-
an Oreo Crumb Donut anyone?
Can you say crushed up Oreos?
Now my teenage son is getting into it, the apple in the fruit basket-oh yes, Fried Apples!
I think this one might have been his favorite (he picked the plate up and licked it clean!)
I have to confess, I was a cruel Mom. The girls weren’t even home when we made these the first time. It was just the boy and me, going a little nuts in the kitchen.
It’s all good, these donuts make the perfect fun breakfast bar for a girl’s sleepover! And that’s just what we did.
Starting off with Sprinkles
because Sprinkles make everything better
How about a Smores Donut-some marshmallow fluff and yes, they found my Chocolate Stash!
And this one, named Blueberry Heaven was Grace’s masterpiece.
Fresh whipped cream, with homemade Blueberry syrup and topped with fresh picked blueberries!
More cool Mom points for me, score! We kept our donuts small, using Pillsbury’s Grand Jr biscuits so we wouldn’t be overindulging. The perfect size for lots of experimenting.
I can’t wait to see what creations they come up with next. There’s already been talk of a Peanut Butter Cup Donut and… using Ice Cream! Stay tuned for more creations!
In the meantime, want more fun breakfast treats?
