Chocolate Sugar Cookies-so simple yet so good!
Sometimes you just get in a mood. You want something. Something to nibble on. You look through all the cabinets. Nothing looks good. You stand in front of the refrigerator, with the door open. Letting all the cold air out, for at least 5 minutes. Still, nothing.
So you walk away. Still craving something, but you don’t know what. You don’t want chips, you don’t want to make a sandwich. The leftovers from the day before looked good but you’re saving them for dinner.
So you take out some butter but have no idea what you’ll make. You know all good things start with butter.
You go do some chores, maybe a little work. As a food blogger, you’ve learned to multi-task. You can edit photos in between loads of laundry.
You finally return to the kitchen to make something with the butter. You open your baking cabinet and it all just comes together.
The perfect Chocolate Sugar Cookie.

Hi Joan,
Can you tell me what size scoop you used and how many cookies does the recipe make?
Thanks!
Joan Hayes says
I use a small cookie scoop, the 1 tablespoon size. If you want larger cookies, use the medium scoop. Using the small scoop, I get about 48 cookies from this recipe.
Tracy says
Thank you so much for the quick reply! I am getting ready to take the dough out of the refrigerator now. I am one of those people who will divide the dough in 4 parts to make sure I get 4 dozen cookies.
Susan says
HOW MANY DOZEN COOKIES DO YOU GET FROM THE CHOCOLATE SUGAR COOKIE RECIPE?
Joan Hayes says
you’ll get about 48 small cookies (I use a 1 tablespoon cookie scoop) or 36 larger cookies if you use the 1 1/2 tablespoon (medium) scoop.
Susan says
THANK YOU. ARE THESE COOKIES CRISPY OR SOFT?

Delicious. And if you want extra decadence, add another 1/4 cup cocoa and some peanut butter (to taste – I used 1/4 cup of the peanut butter, but think it could have taken more) to this recipe…
Sara F. says
Do you think these would hold up well enough to make cut-out cookies?
Joan Hayes says
The dough will spread, if you’re looking for a chocolate cut out cookie dough, I would recommend this recipe https://chocolatechocolateandmore.com/2012/01/chocolate-decorator-cookies/
