Salted Dark Chocolate Cookies-the addition of sea salt sprinkled on top of a dark chocolate cookie makes them irresistible!
Do you love the taste of Oreos? I love to bake cookies but Oreos are still and probably always will be….my downfall. The original Oreo, the Chocolate cookie with the white cream inside.
I like the golden ones and the special holiday ones but Original will always have my heart. I love the whole cookie. Not just the cream middle, not just the rich chocolate cookie. I love it all.
But I rarely eat them whole, unless I’m dunking them in my milk. Yes, I’m a dunker, just 2 fingers. Really finger tips, then the whole cookie goes straight into my mouth.
When they came out with Double Stuffs, I think it was the best day ever! (At least until my wedding day and then the births of each of my children.)
I will be in real trouble if I ever figure out the recipe for the creamy middle of these cookies. As for the chocolate cookie on the outside, these cookies are an exact double in richness.
Since I can’t do the creamy middle I have to add a little sea salt on top to complement the chocolate. It’s amazing what a little salt on top of a cookie will do to enhance the taste.
Salted Dark Chocolate Cookies
Salted Dark Chocolate Cookies
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cup flour
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 5 tablespoons butter
- 1/2 cup dark cocoa (I used Hershey's Special Dark)
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Coarsely ground sea salt
Instructions
- Sift flour, salt and baking soda, set aside.
- In a medium sauce pan, over low heat, melt butter. Remove from heat and stir in sugars. Add in cocoa and stir till completely blended. Add in vanilla and sour cream. Stir until smooth and almost all lumps are gone. A few small lumps are fine. Fold in flour mixture.
- Gently roll into rough 1 inch balls and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten down as much as you'd like. These cookies will hold their shape. Sprinkle a bit of sea salt on top of each cookie.
- Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 10 minutes. Remove from oven and let rest on cookie sheet for a few minutes before letting cool completely on racks.

A package of Double Stuffed Oreos doesnt last more than 5 minutes in my house. If I buy them for baking projects I literally have to hide them and/or threaten death if they get eaten.
THese cookies sound and look so good. I absolutly love salted dark chocolate.

I am not a big fan of sweets but when I do eat chocolate it’s dark and the salt just pushed these right up to the top of my list. Lovely!

These look delicious. Quick question….do you use light or dark brown sugar?

I prefer the dark brown sugar for these cookies.
