Easy Homemade Donuts using Canned Biscuits

Easy Homemade Donuts Using Canned Biscuits

I love Krispy Kreme donuts when that “hot” light is flashing.

Donuts straight out of the oven, then drizzled with that sugary glaze.

Or Dunkin Donuts,

All the different varieties?

And growing up, we had this place called Bagels and Donuts!

The best of both worlds in my opinion!

Running out to get fresh donuts first thing in the morning is a pain in the @#$ (oops, I mean butt.)

You can make hot donuts at home,

They’re just as easy as can be,

and considering the ingredients,

on a cold morning, I think they’re better than a Krispy Kreme!

With the “Hot” sign flashing!

Easy Homemade Donuts

Ingredients

  • 1 can ready to bake biscuits
  • oil for frying
  • sugar for topping, powdered or granulated
  • or you can make a quick glaze
  • [Cream Filling/http://chocolatechocolateandmore.com/2011/10/cream-filling-sweet/] or jelly (optional)

Instructions

  1. Place about 1 inch oil in a pan, heat on medium to about 300 degrees.
  2. While oil is heating, crack open your biscuits. Separate the biscuits so they can warm up a little (just take the chill off) while your oil is heating up.
  3. Once oil is to temperature, place 2 or 3 biscuits in your oil, carefully.
  4. Cook for maybe a minute, these cook really fast, till golden, then flip over to cook other side.
  5. If you want traditional donuts, poke a hole in the middle of the biscuit before placing in the oil. Cook second side about a minute, till golden, then remove to paper towels to drain.
  6. It will take you less than 5 minutes to cook an entire can.
  7. If you are filling your donuts, let them cool for 5-10 minutes.
  8. Now you can fill with jelly or cream filling, using a pastry bag with the filling tip.
  9. Sprinkle a little sugar over the tops, it doesn't take much.

You can do this exact same thing with leftover pizza dough!
We love to make these when the kids have friends sleeping over.  Everyone loves them, fast, easy, quick clean up and they go home bragging about what a cool mom I am!

  3. Thanks girls and Carrie, you are too good to me, I love what you do too, I think we need to have 6 meals a day so I can try everything I see!

  4. My mom made these for me when I was a kid! I always ate like 8 all by myself :P

  5. a can of premade biscuits, oil and sugar DO NOT constitute “homemade”. yes, it’s an easy recipe, but why not work up an actual homemade, from scratch recipe so that your readers can actually learn to cook. plus, a real, homemade doughnut will be healthier than the canned biscuit variety.

  6. Yummy… Going yo try this for my kids…

  7. I’ve made these for YEARS! More when my kids were still home, they’re adults now with kids of their own. But I still love these, so easy and as far as I’m concerned, cheaper and better than store bought.
Thanks for sharing this, I’ve also put it on my FB page.

  8. What kind of oil is best? I don’t deep fry things and don’t keep much oil around the house, but would like to try this. Thanks! Also, I love bavarian creme filled donuts, do you by chance
have a recipe for bavarian cream?

    • You want to use a flavorless oil for frying these so a vegetable oil would be best. And I don’t have a recipe for bavarian cream, I’ll have to find one!
