Chocolate Cookie Dirt Cake – homemade chocolate cake, a layer of Oreos, chocolate ganache, cocoa whipped cream, and topped off with some more crushed Oreos.
This cake might sound like hard work but it’s not. I made this cake in about an hour with a baby on my hip.
So, if you’re like me and have a Velcro baby, then this cake might just be the thing for you.
I’m not the biggest chocolate person either, which could be because my mom created this blog which is literally all about chocolate. But this cake left me amazed.
Typically this cake is made with box cake mix, which is definitely okay to use instead of making a homemade cake. However, making it homemade was almost as easy. And in my opinion, homemade is always better. And fancier.
It’s basically in one bowl, combine all of the dry ingredients for the cake, then add in all the wet ingredients. Pour it into a greased 9×13 pan, and bake and it’s done. There aren’t even any extra dishes like you would think since it’s homemade.
Then the ganache layer is only 3 ingredients melted in a small pot. And the whipped cream layer is the same as making homemade whipped cream just with cocoa powder added into it.
Of course the Oreos just have to be crushed, but thats easy. And good for your mental health to beat them with rolling pin.

Cocoa Whipped Cream :
- 2 cups of heavy whipping cream
- 1 cup of powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon of vanilla (measure with your heart)
- 1/4 cup of cocoa powder
- For the cake, In a medium-sized bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, baking soda, and cocoa powder. Then, add in the vegetable oil, eggs, vanilla and milk. Pour into a greased 9×13 pan, and Bake at 350 degrees for 25-27 minutes.
**Note: I poked holes in my cake, you DO NOT need to! It was an experiment on my end, there’s no benefit to poking holes, as this is NOT a poke cake.
- Once the cake is done baking and its cooling, melt the butter in a small sauce or low heat. Add in the sweetened condensed milk and chocolate chips. Continuously stir until it’s all melted together. Remove from heat. Stir in 2 tablespoons of heavy whipping cream. Layer half of the crushed Oreos over the cooled cake, then pour the ganache over the Oreos.
- While the ganache is setting, prepare the whipped cream. Using a stand mixer or hand mixer, whip the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, vanilla, and cocoa powder until a stiff peak forms. Spoon onto the ganache and spread it out as evenly as possible.
- Layer the rest of the crushed Oreos onto the whipped cream, then place in the fridge until ready to serve.
