Dark Chocolate Cream Pie-don't let the lighter color fool you, this pie has all the rich flavor of dark chocolate in a creamy, cool pie!

I have the most amazing readers/fans/followers/friends! And yes I do consider you all my friends. We share stories, we share laughter, we may even share a tear or two.

You let me babble on about this or that. You try my recipes. You leave kind comments, or you let me know when I’ve made a mistake (typo usually) but always in a constructive way. I’ve never had a harsh or rude comment that I had to delete. You don’t always like my recipes (you can’t please everyone) and that’s ok.

There have even been a few times when someone didn’t agree with a post (the story) and I’m good with that too. We’re all entitled to our own opinions. Don’t even get me started on Bananas or fresh Tomatoes, yuk to the double yuk! I know I’m the odd ball on both of those and it’s all good.

I’ve heard from other bloggers about rude commenters on their Facebook pages but it had never happened to me. I always get the occasional “yuks”, “I don’t like this”, “not for me” and my personal favorites-”This is what causes diabetes” (no, eating too much of it, too often can cause diabetes. All things in moderation.) and “I can’t have this, I’m on a diet” (but it’s still nice to look at and drool over, isn’t it?)

I let those comments stay. I know when I go shopping with my girls, we’ll find items and make comments like “love this,” “this would look so cute on you,” “I have to have this,” but we also make the comments “no way would I wear this,” “That’s a terrible color”  and even the “you won’t wear that as long as your living in my house” has been said a time or two. So I understand the “yuks”.

But last weekend, The comments went beyond yuk, into a crude, perverted sexual nature. On a FOOD post! It was the “haters” come out just to ruin everyone else’s fun. I even had to look up one word (shows that I live in a sheltered world.) I immediately deleted and banned the offenders from my facebook page. I’ve also set up filters for certain words on my page. But it still bugged me. So much so that I did a PSA on my page. You can see it here but I basically said, it will not be tolerated, I’m family friendly. End of story.

The outpouring of love and support from my facebook family had me in tears. Over 900 comments and still going. I tried replying and liking to all the comments, I have read all of them, but Facebook keeps putting me in a time out for liking too much. Know that I truly, from the bottom of my heart, treasure each and every comment.

We always hear about the bad in the world, but I’m here to tell you, there is 100 times more good than bad out there.  I knew it but you all proved it!
And to the haters out there, you didn’t hurt me, or my feelings. I know exactly what you are. Some lonely troll with no friends, no life, just looking to make other people as miserable as you are. I feel sorry for you and hope that one day you will grow up (even though I’m sure you are probably already of an adult age) and learn the value in creating good content, good feelings and good relationships.

So let’s chat about this pie for a few moments. This pie is all about easy. The schools have got me pegged and when Pi (Pie) day is around the corner, you get the call. I made 5 different pies for Pi day This one, was so light, so rich in flavor, and so easy to make, I just had to share it first.

I used a premade crust, you can certainly make a graham cracker or Oreo crust from scratch if you want. It comes together in about 10 minutes and it freezes well. I made it a week before Pie day, took the photos the next day and then froze it until the 14th. Just as amazing that 7th day as it was the first.

Dark Chocolate Cream Pie

Dark Chocolate Cream Pie

Ingredients

  • 1 ready made graham cracker crust
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups sweetened dark chocolate, chopped (or you can use the baking chips)
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream (milk can be substituted)
  • 8 ounce container of Cool Whip

Instructions

  1. Melt chocolate and cream in the microwave for about 45-60 seconds. Remove from microwave and stir until chocolate is completely melted, creating a chocolate ganache, if needed heat for an additional 10 seconds.
  2. With a mixer, cream softened cream cheese and powdered sugar together. Add chocolate ganache, reserving out about 1/4 cup for the drizzle on top of your pie, and mix again till all combined.
  3. Still using the mixer, on low speed, add in Cool Whip. Once combined, pour filling into crust.
  4. To drizzle chocolate. If chocolate has thickened, place back in microwave for 10-15 seconds to liquify. Place melted chocolate in a plastic bag and then cut a small hole in one corner of the bag. Drizzle chocolate over pie in the pattern of your choice.
  5. Refrigerate pie for at least 4 hours before serving.

Notes

this pie also freezes well, remove pie from freezer about 1 hour before serving

  1. This pie looks absolutely amazing. Sorry that happened to your facebook page, hopefully it was the last time!

  2. Hahah all my pies and cakes have a piece missing when they arrive at their destination. This pie looks so rich and decadent. Sorry about the FB comment. Some people are just out to ruin people’s days. I’m glad you didn’t let it get to you. With all the drool worthy desserts you share, I got no time to be hating but clicking to find me that recipe!

  3. Oh my this looks so delicious! Joan, I’ve only discovered your blog a couple of months ago and I have tried several recipes. (And loved them!) I wanted to thank you for sharing. I hope you don’t have any more negative idiots invading your positively amazing space! Thanks so much!

  4. People who feel the need to spread hatred do not have the intelligence to understand that kindness is much more powerful. I enjoy your wonderful blog, so keep it up. As for your decandent dark chocolate pie recipe, would a pastry crust work for this pie?

    • Ooops..I should have read the entire blog before commenting. I responded after drooling over your photos. Now I see that you did make a pastry crust…..I need some of this pie!

    • You can use any crust you like. And Kindness is powerful, you can disarm and angry person with a since smile and a few kind words.

  5. this looks amazing – thank you very much for posting. Thank you too for the message you left above. You are so gracious and forgiving – something we can all learn from . People like you make this world a better place -honestly.
I would love to try this recipe but I am in Australia and don’t have “Cool Whip”. What exactly is it and how can I substitute? Thanks so much. xo

    • Thank you for your kind comments. Cool Whip is similar to whipped cream and you could easily use that as a substitution, just fold in the whipped cream instead of using the mixer. Since Cool Whip os already sweetened, you’ll probably want to add an additional 1/2 cup of the powdered sugar to your recipe to make upo for the unsweetened whipped cream.

      • Joan, I was just going to ask you the same question about the Cool Whip, as I live in Ireland and we don’t have it, but now I can use whipped cream. Thank you so much for sharing all your sumptuous treats with us. Take no heed of the begrudgers, Joan.

    • Karen Goodall says:

Thank you -I also wanted to know this. Cool whip isn’t available in the UK./ Love all the recipes on here, even the ones I wouldn’t chose to make. The variety is fabulous.

  6. Sue Younkin (Mary on facebook) says:

So sorry to read that you had nasty haters on your site. You are right…they are just very unhappy people who want to drag others down their hateful, lonely road! You are so much better than they are. Keep taking care of yourself and your sites. We love you and the wonderful recipes you share!!

  7. Jamie @ Love Bakes Good Cakes says:

Your pie looks great, Joan – I’m all about dark chocolate anything! :)

Fortunately, the good in the world far outweighs the negative people! So sorry someone(s) decided to be a jerk on your Facebook page! I will never understand how some people can be so crude over food?!

  8. First of all, I’m so sorry you had to deal with that on your FB page. I know the post you are talking about and couldn’t believe people had the nerve to write that. I love your recipes and your blog. If I come across a recipe that “isn’t for me” I don’t even comment that…I just don’t read it. There is no need to write negative comments…let alone disgusting sexual ones. Anyways, please keep up the great work!!! As for this pie…yum, yum, yum. My only problem is I don’t know if the filling would make it to the crust. :)

  9. This pie is amazing! Looks so good :-)

  10. This pie looks great! Love dark chocolate.

So sorry about your FB post. I did not see it, so I do not know what was said. I truly understand & do not know why some people want to spread hate. Just for the fun of it? Something is missing in their lives? They are unhappy & want to make others unhappy? I too have a FB page for my business. 2 people have rated me very poorly for no reason. They have never attended any of my classes not even live in my state.

  11. OMG! This will be the desert for this weekend. We’re obvisouly chocoholics. Love your recipes, haven’t tried them all, but I drool over the pictures. I’ve been following you on Facebook as well. Keep up the great recipes!

  12. Joan I think you do an awesome job at how you handle any kind of comments and I know I could learn so much from you! I did not see the FB post but did read the PSA post (I am sheltered too because I have no idea what that stands for) and it sounded like you were just doing the right thing, setting things straight! Now this pie, would be a favorite for my hubby! He is all about dark chocolate!

  13. Renae Golding says:

The pie looks awesome! Can’t wait to make it for my chocoholic in my life! I am amazed and saddened that people will go out of their way to make derogatory comments about something like a recipe. If it doesn’t look good move on. Maybe too much free time? Maybe their mama’s didn’t teach them the same manners that my mama did. Sorry for the sadness in their life that makes them need to unload on a food blogger. I am happy to have found your blog and I will be trying these right away.

  14. Michelle Reynolds says:

Thank you so much for your blog. Remember the haters have so little in their lives they try to take from others.

  15. Beth Smith says:

Just wanted to let you know that I am also a “weirdo” who doesn’t eat fresh bananas. I can’t drink banana orange juice either. I don’t mind the taste when cooked in banana nut bread, but I have a hard time making it and having to smell the fresh (or raw) bananas.

  16. I’m so sorry that you experience such a perverse and rude comment. I really wonder about some folks. Yay for all of your awesome readers out there. I know that the comments I receive put a smile on my face each and every day. This pie looks fantastic, Joan. Pinned!

  17. OMG This looks so yummy :) You can never have too much chocolate!! I would love for you to share this on my Friday T.G.I.F. linky party :)

  18. julie beswick-valentine says:

Love the look of this recipe. Now, as it stands my son and I cannot eat this because we are coeliac. However all is not lost. I,ll make up a base of ground almonds, butter and honey and then use the filling. Thanks for sharing

  19. It looks simular to French silk pie…..does anyone know if it taste like it?
Thinking of making this for easter sunday.

    • This pie is not like a creamy French silk pie. French silk is more of a pudding consistency where as this is a thick cream (think whipped cream) pie. Hope this helps.

  20. Dark chocolate knows its way to my heart. It never seems to get lost. ;) Great little pie, Joan! I’ll take a slice right now!

  21. My chocolate pie like this is one we have wen making for over 30 years. You are so right – don’t be fooled it is rich and fabulous. I just had some nurse tell me that she was worried about my health. Duh I don’t eat the whole dessert and make one on Sunday. I told her not to worry that I usually share with hubby. People are so funny. If you can’t say anything nice don’t say anything at all. Also people, even my own sister will say one of my recipes didn’t work. No dear, you just did it wrong. Usually the case isn’t it.

Wanting to make up some pie right now!!

  22. That pie looks amazing! I love all things chocolate and I also love frozen pies! Boo to all of those “haters” — I despise adults that act like they’re 12.

  23. Whaaa, this is one amazing looking chocolate goodness!

  24. amy pangestu says:

Hi! I’m so sorry about the rude comments. I love every single one of your recipes. Everything in moderation is key. Now, I reaaaaaally wanna make this. But where I live, Jakarta, they don’t sell Cool Whip. What to do? :(

  25. amy pangestu says:

Oops, I didn’t see that someone from Down Under has asked the Cool Whip question :) My bad.
Anyhow, just to make sure.. I can substitute Cool Whip with whip cream and extra sugar. So after creaming the cream cheese and sugar, in goes the whip cream on low speed? Many thanks ;)

  26. I’m not sure what you mean by “sweetened dark chocolate” I guess I’ve never paid attention to if the dark chocolate I buy is sweetened or not. I usually buy the bars of 60% dark cocoa in the baking aisle. Would dark chocolate chips be considered sweetened? Thanks for the help. Saw this recipe on Pinterest and had to have the recipe. Yum!!

    • Chocolate chips would be considered sweetened. I only mention that you want to use sweetened dark chocolate because they do sell the unsweetened dark chocolate baking bars in the baking section.

      • Thank you! I have never paid attention to the sweetened or unsweetened labels before. I have a fabulous dark chocolate icing recipe that I make a lot and I think I buy the unsweetened bars. There are 2 pounds of powdered sugar in that recipe so I’ve never noticed the unsweetened taste lol! I will pay more attention to the labels! Thanks again.

  27. Hi Joan, many thanks for your great recipes! I cannot wait to find a new one on my facebook page every day;-) Shame I am just on a pregnacy diabetes diet, so i can only watching:-( How hard it is!!! But right after the baby will born, i will try them all!!! I hope i will be able to substitute all ingrediences here in the Czech republic as some are not available. So maybe do you have any for us, who cannot eat sugar? Once again thank you;-)

  28. I do not like to use coolwhip, could whipping cream be substituted?

    • Yes you can substitute Whipped Whipping cream for the Cool Whip, you’ll probably need to add some sugar since Cool Whip is already sweetened, I’d say maybe 1/4-1/2 cup powdered sugar.

  29. michelle says:

Hi i have a question for you. I made a peanut butter cream recipe and it also called for powdered sugar and it was very salty and not very sweet. I’m leery about using the powdered sugar for this recipe. I would think that sugar would be better. Is it still sweet with powdered sugar? Maybe I’m interpreting powdered sugar wrong on these online recipes? To me powdered sugar is the white powdered type that you put on french toast for example, not regular sugar.
    Thank you

    • It sounds like your peanut Butter pie recipe called for too much salt maybe? Powdered sugar, confectioner’s sugar and icing sugar are all the same and yes, it’s what you would sprinkle over french toast. You could substitute granulated sugar but your pie would feel gritty not smooth in consistency.

  30. Debbie C says:

I just finished making this Dark Chocolate pie in preparation for after church treats tonight. It was very easy to make! I’ll let you know tomorrow how well it was received!

  31. Love your posts. as a professional baker i definetly love to see the different ideas out there.

As to the negative comments. On our bakeries facebook page we had one post where we asked about what types of pies people would enjoy, and the same thing happened. it went into a negative downward spiral almost instantly. and these were “adults” and yes I even had to call my partner and go ummm have you ever heard this word before and got the where did you hear that from at work?? Then had to block delete and ban a few people immediately. I could not even believe it.

  32. Rosalie says:

Before you deleted that comment about causing diabetes, you should have told that person to do their homework. Sugar does not CAUSE diabetes. I’m diabetic and I still eat desserts. Like you say…..moderation. Keep up the good work!

  33. Saw this on Facebook this morning and just had to pin it. Looks absolutely delicious. I will make it with homemade whip cream and I am sure that that there will be no leftovers!

  34. Jennifer says:

    Yummy

  35. Lynda Treen says:

    OH MY!!!

  36. Oh my word – this looks amazing! Need to pick up some cream cheese tomorrow :-).

Sorry about what happened on your FB page. It never ceases to amaze me the garbage that some people spew out from behind the *safety* of their monitor, and sadly, probably a good lot of them are adults.

You’re page is awesome & the fans totally outnumber the trolls :-)

  37. Hi! Silly question for you. I don’t often use cool whip in recipes. Do I use it frozen in this recipe or do I thaw it? Can’t wait to make it!

  38. Danielle says:

This looks amazing!! I’m definitely trying this. As for the other thing, sometimes people suck, but thank you for sharing all these incredible recipes. :)

  39. this pie looks AMAZING! can you please tell me what cool whip is? we dont have that brand in Australia. Is it a canned whipped cream? or something else?
    cheers.

  40. Danielle says:

It looks awesome. Could you do the same recipe with milk chocolate or even white chocolate?

  41. Kimberly P says:

My husbands birthday is on Saturday (6.7.14) and he gets paid the day before but after rent and other bills we wont have much money until the next paycheck. Now i wanted to take him out to The cheesecake factory for dessert since he’s never been, but i decided to make him something new for dessert instead (to save money) and i came upon this recipe and let me tell you how EXCITED i am to try this out. lol thank you for sharing with us! I promise to come back and let you know how it turned out :)

  42. I have made this pie several times. It is best pie ever. The name of it should be changed to The Best Chocolate Pie in the World !!!!!!!

  43. Fran S. says:

Made this for my husband’s birthday – he is a true chocoholic! It instantly became a family favorite and I am making it again for him for Father’s Day!

  44. Dolly V. says:

OH, MY!!! This is absolutely the one pie I am going to make!! I have been off sweets for a while now…I crave chocolate and just a sliver of this pie will do it for me! Thank you so much for this and all of your wonderful recipes! God Bless!

  45. I have been looking for something new to make for my family reunion and this chocolate pie is going to be it. Thanks for sharing your recipes. Looking forward to something chocolaty….

  46. The pie looks wonderful. I am a dark chocolate lover. I think I will try this but with a homemade crust and sweetened whipped cream- I find the store bought crusts and Cool Whip to have an odd flavor to me. Thank you for sharing.

  47. Julie G says:

Your dark chocolate cream pie looks amazing. I’m a new visitor to your blog and love it. I can’t wait to try this recipe and many others. Great Job!

  48. I made this pie yesterday and it was super fast and easy. While it was delicious, I found it to be a bit too sweet for me. Crazy, right? Do you think I could cut out the powdered sugar and still get a good result? Or reduce it? Or maybe use some unsweetened chocolate instead of all sweetened. I have no idea the best way to fix it but will definitely be making it again.
