Nothing beats hot chocolate with marshmallows. This Hot Chocolate Mix is great for gifts, making mocha drinks or hot chocolate on the go!
Have you all found those Jet Puffed Mallow Bits yet? I was so excited when I found them. My friend Christi from Love from the Oven even has one of her recipes on the back of the canister. Just too cool for words!
I love the memories they bring back for me. I was a can, box, envelope kid. My mom was not a cook. It either came out of a can, a box or an envelope. I can’t tell you how excited we got when mom bought TV dinners. And I still love a good frozen pot pie.
So when it was time for things like Hot Chocolate, it was those little blue envelopes with boiling water. It always took 2-3 envelopes to make a decent cup, I think maybe the amount of water used per envelope must have been 6 ounces? Who drinks 6 ounces of hot chocolate? Certainly not a kid! My sister and I used to have special mugs, just for the occasion. Big mugs.
As a grown up, I can now make my own hot chocolate, made with milk, cocoa, a little vanilla and I control the sweetness. But I still like a mix, to stir into my coffee. Instant Mocha Cappuccino!
I put this Hot Chocolate Mix together to mail off to my son-in-law as part of his care package. I did test it and it’s good! The semi sweet chips give it just the boost it needs to taste almost like the real thing. And the coffee creamer. Hopefully he’ll enjoy it as much as I did.
And the little marshmallows, they just had to be in there. Just like when I was a kid.
Hot Chocolate Mix
Hot Chocolate Mix
Ingredients
- 2 cups instant dry milk
- 1/2 cup dry coffee creamer
- 1 cup cocoa (I used Hershey's)
- 2 1/2-3 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons corn starch
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)
- 1 jar Jet Puffed Mallow bits (3 ounces) or 2 cups mini marshmallows
Instructions
- Sift together milk, creamer, cocoa, sugar, corn starch and salt. Place chocolate chips and 1 cup of milk mixture into food processor. Grind until chips will go through the sifter. Stir in Marshmallows. Store in airtight container.
- To make hot chocolate, combine 3-4 heaping teaspoons of mix to 12-14 ounces (a large mug) of hot, hot (but not boiling) water. Stir until blended and enjoy!

Those mini bits are THE BEST THINGS EVER. Like, lucky charm marshmallows for adults. Even better in cocoa! And, I’ll tell you. When I was a kid, I thought canned green beans and potatoes were hot stuff!

I keep seeing that canister of the Mallow Bits at Wal-Mart…I think I’m finally going to have to break down and get one. I never thought of including mini-marshmallow in my homemade hot chocolate mix (duh, right??). I love this–I think I’ll make some to share for my work gift exchange!

You’ve GOT to have marshmallows in Hot Chocolate!! It would be like a PB & J without, am I right?
Great idea for a care package – I’m sure your son-in-law loved it!
