Vanilla French Toast with Fresh Strawberry Syrup-perfect for breakfast anytime!
I love when kids get in the kitchen. Not just to empty the dishwasher or grab some chips but to cook.
My kids love getting in the kitchen. Not to help, but to do it all themselves. A few weeks ago, my son had a friend over and wanted to cook dinner for us all. No help. He was in the kitchen, I was on the sofa in the living room, giving directions, as needed. I’m proud to say I loved every minute. And it was delicious!
My youngest is the same way. Grace is an expert at breakfast. This Vanilla French Toast and Fresh Strawberry Syrup is all her.
She washed and cut the strawberries
Then prepared the syrup to simmer while she made the french toast.
Knowing just when to turn it, every slice was a perfect golden brown.
While the french toast was cooking, she’d go back and check on her syrup. give it a little stir and return to the griddle. My girl can handle multi-tasking!
In twenty minutes, we were eating a delicous meal created entirely by Grace.
Start kids in the kitchen early and they’ll develop a love for cooking. Let them make a mess, eat a few strawberries along the way and create something wonderful.
Grace has been helping me since she was old enough to stand on a chair.

Vanilla French Toast Strawberry Syrup
Ingredients
- 2 cups fresh strawberries, diced
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 10-12 slices french bread, about 3/4 inch thick
- 1 cup vanilla flavored coffee creamer
- 2 eggs
Instructions
- To prepare syrup, place diced strawberries, sugar and lemon juice in a medium sauce pan. Heat over medium heat, stirring, until a juice forms and sugar is dissolved. Bring to a boil, then turn heat to low. Let simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occassionally.
- While syrup is simmering, prepare the french toast. Whisk together coffee creamer and eggs in a medium bowl. Dip each slice of bread in egg mixture coating both sides of bread. Place egg coated bread on a preheated skillet or griddle heated to 300 degrees (medium heat) coated with butter. Let slices cook for 60-90 seconds each side, until egg is cooked and golden brown. Remove from skillet and place on serving plate. Top with fresh strawberry syrup.

Funny how my kids always seem to cook after a shower.
