Blast From the Past: 13 Nostalgic Ice Cream Treats From Your Childhood

Blast From the Past: 13 Nostalgic Ice Cream Treats From Your Childhood

Raise your hand if you remember the playful and familiar jingle of an ice cream truck. Are you instantly flooded with memories of bare feet, melty push pops and childish laughter? The tune beckons you like a siren’s song, to hastily stop what you are doing. You quickly fumble with your nearest pair of shoes, desperately scrounge for loose change (or a parent) and dart out the door, hoping to catch the truck in time.

There’s something comforting about the fact that this delicious tradition has been preserved. It conjures a nostalgia within us; a carefree time in our childhoods, of broad smiles and sticky chins.

There’s an ice cream truck that drives around our neighborhood pretty regularly, tempting me as I’m working. It often plays Christmas music, which I find pretty irritating, but even still, my mind wanders…

I happily recall my favorite childhood treats… grape and orange Flintstone push pops, classic ice cream sandwiches and strawberry shortcake bars.

How ridiculous would I look, if I were to heed the truck’s call now as an adult, all in the name of a beloved fudgesicle. But then I think. who cares? Life is short and summer is long. Long live the ice cream truck.

About Grace

When I was younger, I was constantly in the kitchen helping my mom bake. It was fun getting to play with the flour and always getting to lick the spoon. I’ve always expressed an interest in baking and now I feel that it’s the right time for me to take over. I am a college student working towards a nursing degree as well as a full-time aunt to the sweetest little kids (they might pop up in some of the posts). I’ve learned most of what I know about baking and cooking from my mom, and I am continuing to self-teach through trial and error, which means plenty of sweets to be eaten. Read more...

This is SUCH a fun round up! I think I may have to skip “real food” means for the next couple days, just so I can get my face on ALL of these treats! Pinned!

When I was a child in the 60’s, there was a ice cream bars called ” Laddie Bar”. It was actually made from ice milk.I cannot find a picture of it anywhere as if it never existed.Would you have any info on it? We use to buy it at a small store in Southern Ohio. Thanks
