Chocolate Gravy Covered Buttermilk Biscuits

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 5 tsps baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • a stick frozen butter
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup hersheys cocoa
  • 1 cup sugar
  • dash of salt
  • 3 tbsps all purpose flour

Instructions

  1. whisk flour, baking soda and powder, and salt together. Cut up butter or grate it and use your hands to combine the butter with the flour mixture, leaving no huge clumps of butter. Add buttermilk, combine but don't over mix, then dump the dough onto a floured surface and knead until dough begins to form. Shape dough into a rectangle then fold hamburger style, flatten back into a rectangle, then fold hot dog style. repeat 5 times. use something circular to cut even-sized portions.
  2. Butter a baking dish/cast iron skillet, place cut-out dough into it then refrigerate for 10 minutes. Spread a little bit of melted butter on top. Bake at 450 degrees for 15 minutes.
  3. In a small saucepan, whisk the milk, sugar, cocoa powder, salt, and flour together until it thickens. Pour on top of cooked biscuits.
